Earlier this month MWOTY 2022 Community Change Award winner Barbara Rouse – also known as ‘The Duchess of Bootle’ – took a star turn on TV show ‘Woodland Workshop’.
Set in the heart of the New Forest, the show sees a team of expert craftspeople build extraordinary, handmade items for people who do amazing things for their community and Barbara was selected for the work she does for her community in Bootle.
Known for being a nature lover and avid birdwatcher, the team’s expert cabinet maker was asked to create a new bird table fit for Bootle royalty.
Speaking after filming, Barbara said: “I thought I was in the New Forest to do something for them, but they were doing something for me! It was filmed on a lovely day in August last year and there was plenty of speculation before it started. Was abseiling down a tree? Riding a New Forest pony?
“I was joined on the day by Brian Dawe, the husband of Jane who nominated me for MWOTY. It was a wonderful experience and I hope everyone could see just how excited I was!”
