Alfie’s Squad is set to host a powerful, nationwide challenge to raise awareness of the devastating impact of suicide and fund vital support for children and young people bereaved by it.
The Race for a Reason campaign will launch on 10th September, World Suicide Prevention Day, by introducing the teams and going live with their individual JustGiving pages. The race, which is supported by LFC Foundation and Chelsea Foundation, will take place from 14th to 16th November 2025.
There will be 30 teams, six of them Alfie’s Squad family teams, and the charity is seeking sponsorship to cover the full cost for teams to enter the challenge. This includes accommodation for two nights, branded team kit, spending money for the team to make their way across the challenge points, plus travel back to Liverpool. Money towards Alfie’s Squad will be raised by each team’s own fundraising efforts before (and during) the challenge.
You can see sponsorship and other opportunities to be involved here.
The race will begin at Anfield Stadium and end at Stamford Bridge – but the route in between is a mystery. Teams must solve clues and complete challenges to reach symbolic checkpoints, each one shining a light on underrepresented aspects of suicide and its ripple effects.
The day also sees the release of new research from Liverpool John Moores University, by Professor Pooja Saini, a researcher in suicide and self-harm prevention, evidencing the life-changing impact of Alfie’s Squad and the urgent need to expand it across the UK.
Extensive media coverage of the challenge is expected, including BBC Breakfast and Evening News and regional coverage at key checkpoints; there will also be a follow up during Child Grief Awareness Week (17–24 November).
Award-winning documentary maker Christian Francis-Davis will be following Alfie as he takes part in this epic challenge alongside Chris Kirkland and Chris’s daughter, Lucy, offering a rare and powerful insight – both through Alfie’s eyes and Chris’s, who has been open about his own mental health struggles.
MWOTY 2024 Women of Courage category winner and CEO at Alfie’s Squad, said: “Supporting this challenge will directly fund and promote the need to fund vital mental health support for children and young people. Together, we can bring light and hope to those left behind.”
