We learn about one of The Positivitree’s fabulous volunteers and their journey of growth. The Positivitree is led by MWOTY 2025 finalist, CEO, Tamara Gilbert.
“I first discovered The Positivitree during lockdown, when my teenage son was struggling with isolation and I had just been diagnosed with cancer. Life felt overwhelming.
An online Colours wellbeing programme with one of The Positivitree’s peer support workers helped me focus on self-care. The sessions offered coping and relaxation strategies that supported me, and, in turn, my whole family. That Christmas, when I couldn’t work because of treatment and Covid restrictions, The Positivitree delivered a food hamper that lifted our spirits and eased the pressure.
When coffee mornings restarted, I nervously attended and was welcomed by staff, volunteers, and other parents who truly understood. After a few visits, the team invited me to volunteer. My confidence was at an all-time low, but helping others gradually rebuilt my self-belief and sense of purpose.
As a volunteer I accessed training, sound baths, and woodland wellbeing sessions, all of which nurtured my wellbeing and personal growth. This year my journey came full circle when I joined the team as a Peer Support Worker. Now I have the privilege of meeting families, sharing experiences, and working alongside local charities and professionals.
I never imagined I’d have the confidence to take on this role when I first walked into those coffee mornings. The Positivitree didn’t just support me through a difficult time, it helped me rediscover myself and create a future where I can give back the same care and encouragement I once received.”
