Sefton Park Palm House is offering a free transition programme this summer and has two spaces left.
The transition programme is a free 6-week programme during the summer holidays, made possible thanks to the People on the Lane funding.
The sessions are aimed at children transitioning from primary to secondary school. This is a great opportunity for 10 children, aged 11 years, to attend a series of 6 qualitative sessions with their parents/carers during the summer holidays.
Jamie Paterson, a Forest School Leader in training, will be delivering six forest school sessions. He is currently undergoing final assessment as a Forest School trainer with Grow Wellbeing. The activities will be educational, creative, connection focused and centred around nature and wellbeing. Jamie will also have the support of our Head of External Relations and Community Manager who will be present to help Jamie navigate the sessions on behalf of the Palm House. Drawing upon relevant teaching and guiding experience present within their roles at the Palm House.
Through outdoor exploration and play, Forest School benefits children by fostering curiosity, resilience, and confidence and promoting physical activity, creativity, teamwork and problem-solving whilst nurturing a deeper connection with nature. The activity will build key confidence and interpersonal skills in their summer holiday between primary and secondary school. Transitioning to secondary school is a particularly significant change for children. There will also be associated benefits for the adults attending with their children.
It will run from 10am – 12pm every Wednesday morning from 24th July – 28th August – parents/carers must stay with their child. To apply for one of the two remaining spaces, please complete the following form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VVWHVCL
The Palm House in Sefton Park also offers school visits, absolutely free. The visits last 1.5 hours and start with a story, followed by a trail around the Palm House learning about the plants, biological control and where the trees are from. Participants then complete a craft activity and end with a poem.
