Category sponsor and charity partner of the 2023 Merseyside Women of the Year Awards, the Community Foundation for Merseyside, were delighted to support BlackFest, a Black arts festival founded in 2018 by MWOTY 2022 Woman of the Year, Jubeda Khatun.

The organisation sponsored both BlackFest’s fashion show and its 2023 celebration event at Sefton Park Palm House.

The annual combined arts festival gives Black artists the opportunity to showcase their talents across community spaces and established venues, and includes music, theatre, film, visual arts, spoken word and poetry, expanding the city’s cultural offering.

Karen Morris, Deputy CEO and Business Development Director, of the Community Foundation for Merseyside commented: “We felt it was important to recognise and celebrate the diversity and talent within our city, and so were pleased to be sponsors of both the Fashion Show, and the celebration event at the Sefton Park Palm House, which included performances from drummers, gospel choirs, rappers, poets and singers.

“Of course, we very much welcomed the opportunity, as we met Jubeda through Merseyside Women of the Year, which is more than just an awards event celebrating the achievements of women, but a valuable platform to enable networking and mutual support. We appreciate the opportunity it presents us to connect with inspirational women achieving great things across the region.”
