Two groups of brave volunteers have taken the plunge in separate charity abseil challenges supporting two previous MWOTY winners.
On Saturday 7th September, members of Team 1C, founded by MWOTY “Inspirational Woman” 2023, Claire Cathcart, abseiled 100ft down Anfield’s Main stand, raising £3,000 for Liverpool Women’s Charity. The fantastic team included MWOTY winner Claire and 10-year-old cardiac patient Kai Saint.
The funds raised by the challenge will go towards a new bereavement suite at Liverpool Women’s hospital, something that is important to Claire and many of Team 1C’s members.
Claire said: “It is important to us as many of us have been affected by this. My first baby Luke, was born sleeping at 20 weeks and our co-founder, Dave’s daughter Isla died age six in October 2022.
“We know that there is nothing that can be done to take away the pain of the loss of a child, but it’s great that we can help with funds for a calm and safe space for parents to spend time with their baby before they have to say goodbye.”
The team’s donation link is still open for anyone wishing to support: https://www.justgiving.com/team/anfieldteam1c
A week later, on Saturday 14th September, a team of 30 abseilers from the Choir With No Name (CWNN) Liverpool, bravely abseiled 150ft down Liverpool Cathedral, while being serenaded by members of the choir and good friends Rek 41 Choir, and Ukulele Club Liverpool.
The team of abseilers was made up of CWNN Liverpool members and volunteers, members of the charity’s staff/trustees team, and friends and fans of the choir, who had pledged to scale the heights to raise money to support the Liverpool choir, which involves people impacted by homelessness in the city.
The charity challenge was coordinated by Ema Quinn, who this June was named MWOTY “Woman Making A Difference” 2024, for her role as choir manager.
To date the challenge has raised more than £13,000, and there is still time to donate: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/cwnnabseil2024
Well done to all you amazing humans – the whole MWOTY team is in awe!
