The Positivtree has this month launched a new programme, Bite by Bite. The programme developed following outreach to parent-carers across Wirral to explore the real-life challenges families face around eating. From restricted and beige diets to food refusal, sensory sensitivities and nutritional gaps, these conversations have shone a light on just how complex mealtimes can be for families of children with additional needs.
Using this invaluable feedback, The Positivitree’s Programme Development and Engagement Coordinator has created a tailored workshop that truly reflects the voices, experiences and priorities of local families. Bite by Bite offers a safe, supportive space filled with practical ideas, relatable discussions and gentle guidance.
It focuses on helping parent-carers make small, meaningful changes around food, from reducing stress at mealtimes to encouraging happier, more confident eating. Bite by Bite is designed to bring understanding, reassurance and real-life strategies that can make a lasting difference to daily life, helping families feel more equipped, supported and a little less alone at the dinner table.
Tamara Gilbert, The Positivitree CEO and MWOTY 2025 finalist, said: “The amount of feedback received has been massive, showing just how important this workshop is for the Wirral and for the families we support. Parent-carers shared their goals, from creating calmer mealtimes and happier eating experiences to encouraging children to try new foods. They also highlighted key topics they most wanted to explore, including sensory approaches, messy play ideas, managing anxiety around food, and how to support children with different cultural or dietary needs.”
