On Friday 28th February brave runner, Alex Rigby, will take on a 107-mile route covering the full Merseyrail network to raise over £35,000 for local domestic abuse charity, Centre 56.
The event is backed by Rise Construction Framework, a long-time supporter of Centre 56 and the lead challenge partner. Rise, led by Director and Merseyside Woman of the Year 2014, Sara Lawton, has played a vital role in funding and advocating for the charity’s work, ensuring vulnerable families receive essential support and care.
His route will cover the full Merseyrail Network, visiting all 69 stations on the Wirral and Northern Lines. Beginning in Chester at 3pm, he will run to all stations on the City Region’s rail network including Ellesmere Port, West Kirby, New Brighton, Headbolt Lane, Ormskirk, and Southport before finishing at Hunts Cross.
Speaking about the challenge, Centre 56 Fundraising Officer, Alex Rigby said: “Centre 56 is an incredible place providing life-changing support to families in crisis. Every day, I see the impact of donations keeping food on tables, and ensuring children have a safe place to grow and thrive. Running 107 miles will be painful, but knowing it helps families escape abuse makes it all worth it.
“We’re so grateful that Rise Construction Framework is supporting us as our lead challenge partner. The support Rise has given us over the years has enabled Centre 56 to expand its services and continue offering specialist childcare for children who have experienced trauma. Having Sara run with me on the last leg will really help to give me that final push over the finish line”

The challenge is further supported by Merseyrail, whose team members including Managing Director Neil Grabham will join Alex on sections of the route. Digital screens across the rail network will display challenge details and encourage donations.
