As part of its commitment to the community, women-led independent financial advisers, the Financial Planning Corporation (FPC), has stepped up as the headline sponsor for the Merseyside Women of the Year Awards (MWOTY) 2023, after five years as category sponsor.
With clients across the Northwest, the financial planning and investment management company has 40 years’ experience supporting its clients, many of which are business owners based in the region, to achieve and maintain financial independence, secure their future and legacy, and lead the lives they aspire to.
Winner of the Professional Services Business of the Year category at the Merseyside Independent Business Awards, FPC is also one of eight companies in the UK awarded Constituency Responsible Business Champion status by the National Responsible Business Champions Scheme.
Through its charitable organisation, the FPC Foundation, it supports other events, initiatives, and organisations across the Northwest, such as the Community Foundation for Merseyside, which seeks to empower women in the region.
Last week, ahead of International Women’s Day, the company hosted an FPC Business Leaders Brunch at Hope Street Hotel, to enable MWOTY finalists and winners from previous years to come together.
Moira O’Shaughnessy, Managing Partner, FPC commented: “There is still some way to go to achieve greater parity for women throughout all elements of society in the UK. Through the FPC Foundation we endeavour to do what we can to support disadvantaged groups and recognise talent and achievement across the Northwest.
“MWOTY is an incredible organisation which throws a massive light on women who really are doing it for themselves and making a huge difference to the lives of others, be that through the arts and culture to enrich lives, or businesses to create jobs.
“It is an honour to be their headline sponsor in 2023 and, for our part, we will go the extra mile in our support of all that these amazing women do.”
Ellie Kerr, MWOTY Founding Director, said: “Having worked alongside FPC for several years now as category sponsors, we know that they ‘get’ exactly what MWOTY is working to achieve.
“As a female-led business with local communities at its heart, their values align perfectly with those of MWOTY and I am excited to see what we can achieve together, both for our MWOTY 2023 finalists and women across the region more broadly.”
This year’s MWOTY awards will take place on Friday 30th June 2023 at the Crowne Plaza in Liverpool City Centre and are renowned for shining a spotlight on women who do not seek the limelight or push themselves to the front, but instead work to make a difference to the people, sectors, and communities they serve.
The awards have grown in popularity and impact since Founding Director, Ellie Kerr, took over their organisation in 2010, and this year’s event will mark 20 years since she became the event’s inaugural ‘Woman of the Year’ in 2003.
As well as FPC’s step up to headline sponsor, previous sponsors Neo Community and ADDvanced Solutions, Hill Dickinson, the Institute of Directors (IoD) and The Community Foundation for Merseyside return once again as category sponsors, with The Community Foundation for Merseyside committing to three years category sponsorship.
2023 also sees two new category sponsors join the MWOTY family; global law firm, Taylor Wessing, whose Liverpool Office is based in the Albert Dock, and communications and publishing consultancy, Auteur Media.
Ellie added: “Every year the MWOTY team aims to step things up a notch and provide a spectacular event and a powerful platform for our amazing finalists to springboard from after the initial celebrations are over. We wouldn’t be able to do this without our brilliant sponsors – new and returning.
“We are honoured and grateful this year to welcome two brand new sponsors, Taylor Wessing and Auteur Media, and receive a three-year commitment to sponsorship from the Community Foundation for Merseyside.
“The continuing generosity of our sponsors allows us to keep the awards sustainable and coming back stronger each year to support our finalists and winners and create our MWOTY legacy in the region.”
Nominations for the annual independent awards ceremony are now open, with a range of categories including Arts, Culture & Media, Business Leader, Community Change, Entrepreneur, Inspirational Women and Women of Courage.
The overall Merseyside Woman of the Year 2023 will be selected from all finalists, following a public vote (contributing 50% of the overall score) and being marked by the organisation’s judging panel against its criteria, which can be viewed here, contributing the remaining 50% of the final score.
The coveted top prize will be presented by headline sponsor FPC.
Category sponsors so far for 2023 include Community Foundation for Merseyside, Taylor Wessing, Auteur Media, Neo Community and ADDvanced Solutions and the Institute of Directors (IoD), with opportunities to sponsor categories still available.
The final deadline for nominations is Sunday 2nd April 2023. You can nominate online or via email. If you find it difficult to nominate in this way due to disability or other reason, please contact us at nominations@merseysidewomenoftheyear.co.uk or call 07966 308 405.
