Women of Courage - Runner Up

Hayley Smallman is a devoted mother, advocate, and community builder who has turned the heartbreak of losing her daughter Holly—who lived with complex medical needs—into a life-changing mission to support other families like hers. Her work has shaped national policy, community awareness, and inclusive innovation across the UK. From her leadership in developing the ‘Life Plan’ at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, to spearheading WellChild’s ‘Not a Nurse But’ campaign and contributing to the UK’s first ‘Better at Home Suite’ at Edge Hill University, Hayley has worked relentlessly to uplift families, reduce isolation, and ensure every child receives the care—and recognition—they deserve. Holly’s legacy lives on through Hayley’s work.
