Following her double win at the 2024 awards, our MWOTY 2024, Director and Joint Owner at Carpenters Group, Donna Scully, shared a few words with us after the confetti had settled…
Donna said: “Well, what a blast! It’s taken me until now to process Friday [28th June]. To be amongst a room full of amazing women and to be crowned as 2024’s Merseyside Woman of the Year – it’s still sinking in.
“I was privileged to be one of the twenty finalists, all nominated for such astounding efforts at these prestigious awards.
“Earlier in the event I was delighted to win the “Business Leader” category. My husband, John and I built Carpenters Group thirty years ago and it hasn’t been easy. We wanted to create a place that not only did great insurance and legal services but one that helped people’s careers and gave back to our communities. You can choose to run a business selfishly or you can try to help.
“When the event culminated in the presentation of “Merseyside Woman of the Year” to me, you can imagine my shock!
“As the first Irish woman to receive the award, the feeling of acceptance and pride runs deep. This ‘blow-in’ from Dublin twenty seven years ago feels like a proper ‘honorary scouser’ now.
“The charitable work I commit to is so necessary, as are the causes of the brilliant women I met at MWOTY. I was struck by how often it is women who are the doers and fighters. We are the essential stitching ensuring a society can survive or succeed. What a joy to behold the women of Merseyside are.
“Thank you to those who nominated me, the judges and everybody who voted for me. Thank you to the charity and community groups I work with for your unending inspiration and support. We won’t stop until we are done!
To my fellow nominees and all the women out there striving to help our region succeed, I raise a glass to you. Sláinte!”
