15 Feb Our MWOTY story by Rae Brooke, CEO of the Community Foundations for Lancashire and Merseyside
“Last year, the Community Foundation for Merseyside and MWOTY joined forces and used the ceremony to officially launch the Merseyside Women’s Fund. By working together, we have been able to raise the profile of this fund, helping us to establish a lasting legacy. The fund will now become a permanent feature of the event.
We first found MWOTY while researching the events and awards that celebrated local women across Merseyside. It was immediately obvious that we needed to part of this amazing celebration, so in September 2017 we approached the team about sponsoring the ‘Inspirational Woman’ category for the 2018 event.
After discussions with a number of influential women across Merseyside in early 2018, we decided to establish the Merseyside Women’s Fund. As well as sponsoring the ‘Inspirational Woman’ awards, we decided that working more closely in partnership with MWOTY awards would be a perfect fit.
Every year, the awards celebrate the achievements of local women, they reward the best of the best and leave a legacy of amazing role models for the next generation of women, which complements our own mission.
At a time when women’s rights are so prevalent in the media and the public eye, this is a great time to be celebrating the achievements of local women in Merseyside and putting a spotlight on the issues we need to address.
What’s more, the associated publicity provides an excellent platform for us, the finalists and winners, allowing them to raise their profiles and to engage with the impressive network of supporters and partners.
2019 will be the second consecutive year the Community Foundation for Merseyside has sponsored the Merseyside Women of the Year awards and we are delighted to support such an amazing cause.
There really is no other event quite like it. The atmosphere on the day is electric, full of laughter, tears and respect and you can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride in being part of it.”
